Just Lovely!

This wasn’t what I was expecting from the on trend Ms Sevigny. Not expecting this at all!

Chloe Sevigny at the Golden Globes

Chloe Sevigny at the Golden Globes

Normally, the lovely Chloe is looking fierce in a pair of straight-from-the-coliseum-gladiator sandles or an interestingly multi-coloured and multi-textured number when she hits the red carpet.

But this time she looks just lovely.

The delicate colour suits her and she wears those ruffles instead of the ruffles wearing her like one of those toilet guarding dolls you find in old ladies downstairs toilets.

Chloe – a triumph in elegance! Well done you. And thanks for the FugGirls for pointing this out. You should follow them on twitter – they are great!

Snow Chic Is No Chic!

I am sure that county councils across the land and the Government for that matter, have heaved a huge sigh of relief that the ice and snow has finally thawed and slid down a grate or gutter somewhere near you.

As pretty as the snow is to look at, it is not pretty to walk on, skid or fall on. And with that thought, I have realised that snow is simply not chic!

What do you wear on a snowy day? If you are not at work, it’s easy. Skinny jeans, OTK boots, a big warm coat and enough woollen hats, scarves and mittens to furnish an Accessorize store.

If you are at work then it’s a whole new problem.

It’s sensible boots to walk to the car, scrape two inches of ice off then drive, or slither, to work. Then it’s a precarious walk, dependent on the grit and salt availability, from the car park into your building – which may or may not have the heating working.

There are just too many things to think about when it snows. A change of shoes, enough layers to keep you warm but not so you look like the Michelin Tyre Man and the obvious horror of falling over.

So it was with great delight that I traveled to work this morning wearing a green scoop neck jumper courtesy of John Smedley and my favourite black pencil skirt from Jigsaw Sartorial bliss and ease!

Let’s hope the cold spell is over!

New Year Style

Hmmmm, I have been pondering what style direction to take for the new decade and I might be thinking dresses.

I am not a fan of sale shopping but I am fan of sale sections on high street web sites. Easy to navigate from the comfort of my living room, no waiting for sales assistants to say ‘No size 14 in stock!!’ and absolutely no rabid, maniac sale shopper who has queued since 6am for their chance at sale shoppng glory, and who will stop at nothing to get the elusive bargain.

I know I still bare the scars, the adverts for coverall make up have nothing on the bite marks. But that’s for another time…

So, back to the dresses.

I quite like this Jackson Pollack inspired number from Coast I think it would be flattering around the stomach area, vital for the post Christmas bulge, and the colours are pretty. A nice move away from classic black.

I also think this is classically elegant from Jigsaw which would see you through any social occasion on a wave of elegance.

I have realised that there is no greater feeling when you wear something that makes you feel fabulous! Which is why this fabulous non-sale dress from Coast might just make it’s way home with me when I eventually hit the shops!
